So far, I have just finished Part I of the book and I’m a bit familiar with installing and setting up an application as well as the relationship between the controller and view files.

Tomorrow or the next few days, I’m gonna start with Part II which is building your own Shopping Cart application.

Already have the Peachpit one but it was more of a copy-the-code-and-paste-in-your-html type book that never really teaches you about the JavaScript language. This one is better. Just the right amount of theory and practice with a focus on how the language fits in making your site more usable.

In case you’re wondering why JavaScript, I am learning it because I think every web developer should know how to do client-side scripting/validation to save on inefficient trips to the server just to validate input. More importantly, AJAX seems to be a really cool technology and the “AJ” in that acronym means “Asynchronous Javascript.”

With the one-month break coming up and the long list of books-to-read, this just might be useful. Being able to touch type significantly changed my life, I hope being able to “AcceleRead” does the same.

“… The magic of Paul’s intelligence is that he has more patience than anyone I’ve ever met, and with it he simply wears problems down. To count a hundred million stars, he told me once, at the rate of one per second, sounds like a job that no one could possibly complete in a lifetime. In reality, it would only take three years. The key is focus, a willingness not to be distracted. And that is Paul’s gift: an intuition of just how much a person do slowly.”

Another proof that, it takes more than IQ to succeed - and something that I always keep on forgetting.
