I’m investing in learning this framework after hearing all the good things about it. I’ve bought the “Agile Web Development with Rails” book on a business trip to Australia as an added motivation to start learning it (I couldn’t find a copy of it in my hometown in the Philippines)

So far, I have just finished Part I of the book and I’m a bit familiar with installing and setting up an application as well as the relationship between the controller and view files.

Tomorrow or the next few days, I’m gonna start with Part II which is building your own Shopping Cart application.

I’ve been practicing with eating using chopsticks whenever I’ve had the chance to eat at the local Japanese restaurant. Just this afternoon, after ordering a chicken bento with my brother, I’ve decided I’m already good at it.

Now I can say that I won’t go hungry if I’d go to Japan or China or some other place where people primarily eat using chopsticks.

And, as if having one blog which I can’t even manage to post regularly isn’t enough, I’ve just set up another blog. I’m thinking of it as a tech-oriented blog. So, no more mushy stuff in there - only technical, geeky, you’re-not-a-god-if-you-don’t-get-it posts.

I’m not posting the link yet because I still have some configuration to do and have to post some content first. You’ll hear about it eventually.

Practical JavaScript for the Usable Web - I have yet buy a good JavaScript book. Already have the Peachpit one but it was more of a copy-the-code-and-paste-in-your-html type book that never really teaches you about the JavaScript language. This one is better. Just the right amount of theory and practice with a focus on how the language fits in making your site more usable.

In case you’re wondering why JavaScript, I am learning it because I think every web developer should know how to do client-side scripting/validation to save on inefficient trips to the server just to validate input. More importantly, AJAX seems to be a really cool technology and the “AJ” in that acronym means “Asynchronous Javascript.”

Triple Your Reading Speed - Didn’t plan on buying this but I thought at the last minute that anything that can improve the self should always be tried. With the one-month break coming up and the long list of books-to-read, this just might be useful. Being able to touch type significantly changed my life, I hope being able to “AcceleRead” does the same.

Would also like to know if it’ll be better to have a “catch-all” blog or to have two or three blogs that are more focused on certain topics? In the latter case, I just might split the current blog into (1) personal blog (2) technical/work-related blog, and (3) movie reviews blog.

In case you’re wondering, the total amount inside was P1,981 (pretty amazing, I was born in 1980 - so it was just a peso more, I wonder what that could mean). I’ll be using that money to buy gifts for my siblings and cousins this Christmas.
