Counting the stars…

Something worth posting. This is from “The Rule of Four” by Ian Caldwell and Dustin Thomason. Jen had me borrow the book after I finished the ever-popular but hard-to-get-a-copy-of (at least for me) “The Da Vinci Code.” Still stuck on Chapter Two though - probably be reading this again during the Christmas break:

“… The magic of Paul’s intelligence is that he has more patience than anyone I’ve ever met, and with it he simply wears problems down. To count a hundred million stars, he told me once, at the rate of one per second, sounds like a job that no one could possibly complete in a lifetime. In reality, it would only take three years. The key is focus, a willingness not to be distracted. And that is Paul’s gift: an intuition of just how much a person do slowly.”

Another proof that, it takes more than IQ to succeed - and something that I always keep on forgetting.

Gugmang gi-ahak…

Most people perceive me as cold, insensitive, aloof, even snotty.

What people never knew is that whenever there’s someone I really like (infatuation or otherwise), I can be as kilig as the typical progesterone-overdosed pubescent girl. Ask my brother, he’s probably gotten sick of listening to my mush-filled bedtime ramblings.

Maybe it’s time to find a girlfriend. Not having one is dangerous to your health.

“Life’s a bitch and then you die…”

So what’s up? Here’s what’s up…

  • My officemate’s dad just died of lung cancer. Turns out it was already stage 4 when they found out about it. Ironically, the dad never smoked cigarettes and, as my officemate tells me, kept a strictly healthy regimen to the point of hypochondria.
  • My officemate happens to be one of the sweetest people that I know of despite the fact that I’ve only known her for just a short time. It sucks to see her lose her dad - her mom died when she was still three years old.
  • I just had an argument with someone regarding sexuality on a public forum. Turns out that someone was, as she terms it “raped” by her boyfriend, which became the reason she lost her virginity.
  • I sounded like a male chauvinist, arrogant, insensitive pig.
  • My dad left for Manila just last week. We had a terrible fight before that.
  • In case you guys didn’t know, my parents have been separated for more than a year.
  • I’m stuck on a Windows workstation because I had to beat a mid-July deadline for a project and I have to use Macromedia Dreamweaver.
  • I haven’t started on that project yet.
  • The First Gentleman and Presidential son are embroiled in a corruption scandal involving getting payoffs in illegal gambling money.
  • The President herself is also involved in another scandal - this time about an alleged taped conversation to rig the elections.
  • I’ll be surprised if she actually gets to finish her term until 2010. I’ll be 30 years old by then.

Sometimes with all the fucked up things happening, you just couldn’t resist yearning to be in a time of honor and chivalry.

Peace of mind is such an elusive comfort.

Sleep is the enemy

I’ve been awake for more than 24 hours already. I remember waking up from an afternoon nap yesterday at 4PM (so that makes it more or less 25 hours and 40 minutes).

So how did I do it? Here’s how:

  • Four cups of coffee from 1AM to 5AM
  • Two sachets Extra-Joss. One taken around 1AM and another at 8AM
  • One capsule Clusivol
  • 15-minute naps whenever you get drowsy

Lesson number three…

Memorable quotes from Ronin:

Sam: Whenever there is any doubt, there is no doubt. That’s the first thing they teach you.
Vincent: Who taught you?
Sam: I don’t remember. That’s the second thing they teach you.

(At the end of the film)

Vincent: No questions. No answers. That’s the business we’re in. You just accept it and move on. Maybe that’s lesson number three.
