On fear…

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
- Litany Against Fear, Dune

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
- Master Yoda, Star Wars Episode I

Interestingly enough, the Star Wars universe has been listed in the fiction inspired by Dune page in Wikepedia.

  1. Dune… Didn’t really like it much. Maybe I’m just notinto sci-fi-ish stuff. The only book I liked that’s crazy enough to be sorted in the sci-fi-i-could-tolerate-folder of my mind is Oryx and Crake.

  2. hahaha… well, not everyone can appreciate sci-fi. you need a very, very open mind and an out-of-this world imagination to “stomach” it.

  3. Have you seen that version where Sting was in the cast? That was IMHO the best one. The Litany Against Fear was uttered by Paul (Atraidian monarch, believed to be the “one”) when he believed he ingested “spice” and that it had a very weird effect on him.

Brother! Help me look for a DVD copy of that film! My betamax player doesn’t uhmm play anymore. ;)

  5. I love sci-fi movies, but the only sci-fi books that I’ve read were those of Michael Crichton.
